History
Castellaccio is located between Lamole and Lucolena in the heart of Chianti Classico, with vineyards planted between 400 and 700 metres above sea level. Davide Bottai represents the fourth generation of the family and has transformed the estate into one of the most exciting projects in the region. Organic farming has been practiced since 2013, and the quartz-rich mountain soils contribute freshness, salinity and strong terroir expression.
Grape variety
70% Sangiovese, 15% Trebbiano, 15% Malvasia.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place spontaneously with indigenous yeasts following a minimal-intervention philosophy. In the 2024 vintage, the white grapes underwent approximately two months of skin maceration, adding texture, savouriness and complexity. The wine is then aged in a combination of concrete and used oak vessels to preserve freshness and purity.
Alcohol content
11.5%.
Tasting notes
Pale ruby red in colour. Aromas of pomegranate, red berries, blood orange, aromatic herbs and subtle balsamic notes emerge from the glass. On the palate it is light, vibrant and savoury, with very fine tannins, lively acidity and exceptional drinkability. Its style may recall a delicate Pinot Noir, Fleurie or even a Jura Poulsard.
Food pairings
Excellent with Tuscan charcuterie, crostini, pappa al pomodoro, panzanella, light pasta dishes, white meats, vegetarian cuisine and aperitivo-style dining. It can also be served slightly chilled during warmer months.
