History
Corte Sant’Alda is one of the leading estates in the organic and biodynamic wine movement of eastern Valpolicella. Led by Marinella Camerani, the winery is located in Mezzane di Sotto, near Verona, where vineyards, woodlands and olive groves create a landscape rich in biodiversity. The name Campi Magri refers to the naturally poor soils from which the grapes originate, a distinctive feature contributing to the wine’s character. The vineyards include the Campi Magri, Prà Alto, Retratto and Monte Tombole parcels, situated between approximately 200 and 350 metres above sea level on predominantly limestone-based soils. Marinella Camerani’s philosophy emphasises respect for natural cycles, the preservation of traditional grape varieties and winemaking practices that express the identity of the land. Campi Magri is one of the most representative wines of this approach, offering richness and complexity while retaining freshness and elegance.
Grape variety
50% Corvinone, 30% Corvina, 20% Rondinella.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand from organically and biodynamically managed vineyards. The first fermentation takes place spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in large wooden vats of approximately 40 hectolitres, with skin maceration lasting around 10-15 days. In February, the wine undergoes the traditional Ripasso process, involving a second fermentation on the still-rich Amarone grape skins for approximately 5-6 days. This technique enhances structure, aromatic intensity and depth of flavour. The wine subsequently matures in cherrywood barrels of approximately 14-15 hectolitres, where it develops complexity before bottling. The use of this distinctive wood contributes to the wine’s character without overwhelming its natural fruit expression.
Alcohol content

Tasting notes
Deep, intense ruby red with purple reflections. The nose reveals a rich and layered bouquet of ripe cherry, sour cherry, raspberry and plum, complemented by hints of berry preserve, sweet spices and dark cocoa. Elegant balsamic nuances, aromatic herbs, lavender and subtle tobacco notes gradually emerge. The palate is enveloping, structured and harmonious, with ripe, juicy fruit supported by well-defined tannins and refreshing acidity that brings balance to the wine. Spicy elements mingle with appealing mineral and balsamic depth, leading to a long, persistent and refined finish. A Ripasso that combines intensity and finesse, with excellent potential for further bottle development.
Food pairings
Campi Magri is an ideal companion to rich, structured dishes from Venetian and Italian cuisine. It pairs beautifully with braised meats, roast beef, slow-cooked beef cheek, game stews and hearty casseroles. Excellent also with pappardelle served with wild boar ragù, porcini mushroom risotto, polenta with meat sauces and aged cheeses such as Monte Veronese and Parmigiano Reggiano. Its structure and aromatic complexity make it particularly suitable for autumn and winter dishes. Best served at around 16-18 °C in a generous wine glass.
