History
Banfi was founded in 1978 by two Italian-American brothers John and Harry Mariani; from the outset, the two planned to create a very large production structure which was however able to balance the quantity with the quality of the wines produced, through cellars and cutting-edge tools. The collaboration with the oenologist Ezio Rivella, one of the most renowned professionals in the sector in Italy, will also be fundamental. Also in those years, Banfi took over the historic Piedmontese winery Bruzzone, active since 1860 and transforming it into Banfi Piemonte with a view to producing quality classic method sparkling wines.

Production method
Brunello di Montalcino is produced with Sangiovese Grosso grapes, fermented at a controlled temperature and aged for at least 2 years in oak barrels, followed by a further 4 months in the bottle before being marketed.

Tasting notes
Intense ruby red color with garnet hues. The nose clearly perceives notes of very ripe fruit and jams, such as plums and blackberries, with hints of balsamic vinegar and sweet spices. On the palate the wine is soft, rich and of good substance, balanced by acidity and ripe tannins on the finish; the sip is long and pleasant. Brunello di Banfi is a great, powerful and mature Tuscan red wine, suitable as a meditation wine, capable of expressing itself at its best even after many years in the bottle. It is typically recommended on savory and spicy red meat dishes or game such as stews, stewed wild boar or venison, braised meat, roasts, roast duck or chicken livers.
Possible combinations
Brunello di Montalcino goes perfectly with grilled or braised red meats, game, aged cheeses and dishes based on porcini mushrooms. It is also ideal with Tuscan dishes such as Florentine steak, stewed game and pasta with meat sauce. In general, it is recommended to combine it with structured and tasty dishes that enhance its complexity and depth of flavour.
